Happy Birthday to my very best friend!  I could list all the things that I love about you…

I could list all the things that make me laugh or drive me crazy or make you “you”….

But instead, sometimes MY words aren’t ever quite enough.  They  just don’t seem to capture everything that is in my heart and how thankful I am for that silly blind date that I had no idea I was going on!  There are never going to be words that will ever explain how every night I am thankful for you and to our friends for pairing us together!

Sometimes blind dates DO and CAN work!  Sometimes they are the best surprises of them all and when you aren’t looking, you end up finding your soul mate (whether you want to or not… right?!)

I’m so thankful for that lunch date and the many more that have come after and the more we have left to come in the future!

I’m thankful for all of our times that we have had… the great and amazing, the life altering ones, and even the tough ones!  They have made us who we are!

Mostly though… I’m jus thankful for you!

You are one incredible (hero) of a man who works hard for his family and plays harder when your home.  You are my constant supporter and cheerleader.  You are the crazy dad at the pool that all the kids love!  You are one amazing friend that once you’re in, you’re in for life… there’s no getting rid of you!  Most of all, you are more loved than you could ever know!

So enough of my words… here are some words that always make me think of you!

FIVE!  It’s kind of a big deal right?!  There’s definitely no more baby once you hit FIVE!  It’s almost as if a whole new world is opening up and it’s a world that I may have wished for, but I know I”m not ready for!

Where did my little baby go?  Where are his (somewhat) chubby cheeks and his chubby little feet?!  Who is this tall (er) kid that stands before me?!  This one who has all the attitude in the world but can be oh so sweet at times that it melts my heart.  This boy who is always covered in bandaids because he only functions at one speed and that is full force!  This boy that asks me the most curious questions and will debate intensely over broccoli and carrots and bedtime.

I always try to get a little mini photo shoot in on his birthday so I can remember him exactly how he is right at this time!  Sometimes it’s fancy and sometimes it’s not but either way, it allows me to freeze this time moment right now!  I get to stop time for just a second and capture all of him:  his boyness, his attitude, his sass, his light, his smile and all the little details that make him, Linc!

I tried to make it fancy this year and come up with a plan but you know how that goes.  Just like it always does with the two of us, Linc had other ideas and even though in my head this “fishing” session was going to turn out masterfully;  sometimes just being present and photographing them just as there is turns out to be way better.

We woke up early, we were eaten by bugs, we may have seen an alligator and we had sugary coca-cola before breakfast time!  We laughed, we whined and when we came home we stuffed our faces with pancakes!

Oh my little guy….

Don’t grow up too fast now.  I know you love to live life as fast as you can, but this…. let’s start slowing this bit down!
